Planning and Operations Improvement Manager

+ Customer success

Which department do you work in?

I work in Operations. We are in charge of supply management for all small research models and Teklad varieties in North America, managing inventory levels at animal facilities and within the distribution network to ensure order fulfillment. Our aims are to produce to our customers’ requirements while having the lowest waste possible, being mindful of animal welfare and perishable diets.

What are your individual responsibilities?

As the Operations Planning Manager for animals and Teklad products, I am responsible for ensuring successful fulfillment of our customers’ orders. This involves continual management and monitoring of the appropriate production and inventory levels. I regularly review the demand with our cross-functional team, and work with facilities across North America to ensure inventory levels are maintained. I also routinely analyze key metrics to ensure appropriate levels are always identified and revised as needed.

What is an absolute ‘must have’ in your role?

A combination of attention to detail, communication skills and on-the-job experience in multiple operational areas have all contributed to my success in this role. My broad range of experience helped us set up streamlined processes that eliminate waste by removing duplication in inventory levels.

How long have you worked at Envigo?

Since 2001, based at a number of Envigo sites around Indiana.

What are the best parts of your job?

I enjoy interacting with the various individuals and departments within Envigo, knowing that we are all working together towards our common goal of fulfilling customer orders. I am in constant communication with every department within the organization to ensure smooth operation.

Tell us about some of your achievements.

Since starting in this role, I have worked on many projects with our Business Process Excellence, Operations and Finance departments. Through these projects and initiatives, I have been able to strengthen many aspects of the business (for example, our Yearly Budget Planning and Teklad Scheduling). The creation of electronic tools for utilization by multiple departments has allowed the business to operate smoothly with shared knowledge and understanding. These improvements are all focused on providing an ever-improving service to our customers.

Why science?

I have always wanted to work with animals. My first job involved performing cryopreservation and embryo transfers. I then moved to an isolator facility, becoming a Group Leader and then a Shipping Coordinator. This led to a job as an Operations Support Specialist, which was the ideal training for my current position.

What do you like doing outside work?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and supporting my community. Indiana is a great place to live!
