What are your individual responsibilities at Envigo?

As a Project Manager, my role varies a lot from day to day. I work closely with sales and customer service to provide technical support to our customers; defining the scope of new projects to deliver the outcome the customer needs. From project inception to completion, my team and I provide the key link between our operational departments and the customer to ensure success.

What inspired you to pursue a career in science?

I've always been fascinated by science - specifically human health and disease. I wanted to work in an innovative field that positively impacts lives. After graduating from University, I was hired by Envigo as a Laboratory Technician. From there, I quickly worked my way up to Group Leader of both the Immunology and Molecular Biology health monitoring labs. My experience in these roles provided the foundation to springboard a move into project management. I think the importance of scientific research in medicine has never been so obvious as it is in the current climate. By ensuring we provide a first class service to our customers, I am proud to play just a small part in this essential field.

What are some of the best aspects of your job?

I feel very lucky to have a job I really enjoy. Every day presents a new challenge which means there is no opportunity for boredom. One of the best parts of my role is getting to work with customers and teams across the globe. I am a people person, so communicating and building relationships with so many different groups of people is something I thrive off. As a Project Manager in this industry, you are on the cusp of new technologies. There is nothing greater than receiving an email to say that a customer has achieved proof of mechanism for a novel therapeutic using cohorts that we have supplied. It's really exciting to know you might have played a part in bringing a new therapy to market.

What are some key attributes to being successful in your role?

Clear communication and integrity are important. I like to have an open and honest line of communication with our customers, collaborators, and colleagues; establishing credibility is critical for success. I have been told one of my best attributes is my ability to remain calm under pressure. You have to be resilient and ready to tackle any challenges that arise. Being adaptable, analytical, strategic, and having the ability to think outside the box are important to.

What are your professional and personal goals?

I'm very determined, ambitious, and quietly competitive in all aspects of my life - not just work. I've always aimed to perform to the best of my ability in whatever I'm doing and learn as much as I can from the people around me. Personally and professionally I hope to continue to embrace whatever the future holds for me. Oh, and maybe finish the garage conversion I've been planning for the last year; perhaps that last one is a little too ambitious!
